Dog Rehoming Assistance

I know how difficult it can be to rehome a dog and find a safe, loving new home, especially since many rescues aren't currently able to accept owner surrenders. I volunteer with a couple of rescues and am familiar with the adoption process, so I’d love to help make sure your dog finds a safe and loving home.

Whether you're rehoming because of illness, financial hardship, housing changes, or another difficult circumstance, my goal is to help you find the safest and best possible home for your dog without judgment. 

The first step is seeing if a rescue is able to take your dog. I can provide you with a list of reputable rescues and even reach out to them on your behalf. If no rescue is able to step in, I can help guide you through the rehoming process. Please note that when a rescue or shelter describes itself as no-kill, that typically means it saves at least 90% of the animals in its care. Up to 10% may still be euthanized.

While I’m not a rescue myself and can’t provide veterinary care, I can support you in other ways, like helping with an adoption application, screening potential adopters (including vet and personal reference checks), doing internet background searches, and setting up virtual home visits. I can also help get the word out by creating a detailed bio, photo collages, and even a YouTube video to showcase your pet, posted on the Senior Dogs Rock YouTube channel. 

While I can help with dogs of any age, priority is given to senior and special needs dogs. 

How it works:

We’ll start with a phone conversation so you can tell me about your situation and your dog. This initial conversation is a required first step before I can begin helping with a rehoming.

You’ll provide photos of your dog (and videos, if needed).

I’ll use the information you share to craft a personalized biography for your dog.

I’ll send you the completed biography along with edited photos for your review, and if I’m creating an adoption video, I’ll include that too. I’ll take care of posting everything on social media and RescueMe.org, and you can share on your own social media if you’d like.

Once your posts are live, you can handle the initial adoption inquiries and collect completed applications, or I can do it for you. I’ll then screen the applications thoroughly.

I’ll stay in touch throughout the process, keeping you updated every step of the way and making sure you feel supported.

I’m here to provide as much or as little help as you need, but rehoming is a collaborative process and does require your communication and participation along the way.

In order for me to create the biography for your dog, please provide the following details:

• Name, Age, Breed, Weight

• Are they spayed or neutered?

• Are they up to date on shots?

• Any known medical issues?

• How do they get along with other dogs?

• How do they do with cats?

• How do they behave around children?

• How are they with strangers?

• Are they house trained?

• Personality traits and quirks (Do they dance for food, spin when happy, love toys? What are their likes and dislikes?)

• Do they enjoy walks? How do they behave on a leash?

• Do they like to play or roam in a fenced-in yard? Is a fenced yard a must?

Feel free to add any other details you think someone adopting your dog would want to know.
